As of May serial s have been checked here. This automated system can lookup tractor serial numbers for most all farmall tractors.

Most likely they were just natural cast iron. They go red when the tractor is painted if you don't remove them. I have several different colors on my tractors.

Cast iron, red, black and rust. I don't really think it matters unless you are truly restoring a tractor to percent original condition. If you are leaving it cast iron I would coat it with a clear coat that at least would keep the rust away for a while. Everything was painted red after the tractor was assembled. The black starters,generators,carburators,etc are a 'restorers' attempt to make them look fancy. A brass carb looks sharp,but is not origi al. To be truly 'correct',the belts and radiator hoses have red overspray.

The tractor was painted as it passed down the assembly line. Steering wheel and tires were added later. Correct means only painting one side of the steering shaft,a couple runs will add authenticity. I was just thinking 'farmall' and not 'international' which i think '79' would be called? I think the best way to find out the year maybe by looking at it, i think the changed styles over the years. Doing some research in Tractor Registry I found several tractor listed by engine number engine engine engine engine So by this the engine serial number IS NOT the same as the serial number.

I am thinking that mine is a model. Casting codes of the letter E support this also. Engine casting codes R2 Thanks guys! If its a it will have an alternator in stead of a generator and it will have a key start only and also they have two flashers on the fenders.

Also the fan shroud is bigger on the later models. If its a model it will have the old style grill and a 6 volt system with a pull start.
