Even into , the AMD ATI site was largely full of broken links and missing information -- some of which appears to have been restored after a multi-year absence. There was also more emphasis on MPEG-4 recording, even though it made for a horrible capture format. You'll note that this All-In-Wonder card list does not match the list at Wikipedia. I firmly believe there are mistakes on that list, even when sources are given.
My information is based on a decade of accumulated research and first-hand experience. Beyond that, my list closely matches the official "by chipset" list from AMD's December site. In my opinion, it's also an issue of authority -- this site is well known for its information on using ATI All In Wonder cards, through the efforts of site members like lordsmurf, whereas Wikipedia is not. For most serious video hobbyists and professionals, that's really not an issue, as the machine is built specifically for video capturing, and not as a general-use family computer.
KVMs are used to keep overall desk footprints small. I can't seem to get this one to load because the "standard VGA drivers" aren't loaded for my card. It gives me errors that ".
I don't see anywhere to load the standard VGA drivers. The system automatically loads Radeon display drivers. When I manually load the drivers, I don't see as an option, not even " series". The and are more or less the same thing. The ATI series did not "step up" until the series cards. Are you sure yours is PCI? My did a pretty good job but if I can squeak out better captures with the I will try to get a AGP. Is it better? And other issues, such as better noise prevention FM noise, for example and better coax tuner performance.
There are less internal problems, in this manner, which can yield better videos, but not necessarily so. You guys have been very helpful especially neomaine for offering me a replacement card. You'll get differing opinions on the Catalyst driver and MMC mix. For me, on Win XP, the Cat 4. I think after MMC 9. Do you think that combo will work on Win?
I read somewhere that MMC 9. Also I'm still interested in which drivers are the best on Win Thanks for all the help. Never got much use out of Video Soap.
Been trying to remember when W2K just didn't cut it anymore, it was right around 8. Had to move to XP. Haven't really had any major problems with any of them, the installation is the fun part. What works on a particular PC, OS, and card version is as close to a complete crapshoot as you can find. Decide what features you want or need and start with that software.
After getting 48k audio and VBR recording, I really didn't see a whole lot of difference. The newer versions might have a better IVTC, but my source has changed so hard to tell. Versions 9. Biggest problem is major bitrate spikes resulting in non-standard DVD files. I hardly ever burn disks anymore so this is less of a problem.
Older versions, 9. However, outside of the DVD arena, the spikes might actually be a benefit. I don't believe I could do this with older MMCs. It is not a limitation of the card or MMC. However, it could be a limitation of the new preset you're trying to set up.
Try selecting "Full resolution" or "DVD" in the main selection menu under "map preset". If you don't see either one of these in that list, there is another problem.
You might also check Lordsmurf's website. You must love him". The AIW can do higher captures. I don't know what program you are using to capture but in Virtualdub the highest frame size I can choose is by Look for the wrapper. What version of MMC are you using? Seems like I recall some one saying that older versions had some limitation. I use 8. Seems to fix the "grainy" issue that has been reported on many other boards.
